As most of you know and for others maybe you don't know, Jonathan and I will be heading to Africa in 21 days. We've had this trip planned for so long it's now gotten to the point where I just want to be there and start this adventure. Mind you, there is all the lead up to such a vacation/holiday/adventure that most people not always know about.
I think we have spent more time planning this adventure then we did our wedding, mind you I would have been ok with eloping... but I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed our wedding (myself included). Since basically the day after our wedding we've been working out the other details of this trip, what we need to bring, what we want to do in any extra time and of course paying the bitch down. Even Christmas revolved around this trip, at least the big gift we gave each other.
I'm grateful that I have parents who are both photographers and have all the little extras that most people would love to have on a trip like this. My dad has even allowed me to take his long lens, which I know if it doesn't come back in pristine conditions, I best have a replacement or take up residency in Africa. The bigger problem with having photographer parents, is weighing (literally) what you want to take with you, I could easily take my allowed weight in just photography equipment. I think between myself and Jonathan we will have everything fully covered.
With doing such a trip, we've had to make sure that we are up to date with all our vaccines, believe it or not some countries won't let you in unless you have some required vaccines... like Yellow Fever, apparently yellow fever is a horrible disease to catch and that's why it's required. Thankfully, Jon and I had a number of vaccinations from our South American trip, so in the end we just needed typhoid and be tested for the Heps. Jonathan got tested for Hep A & B, while I just needed to be tested for Hep B. That was horrible, 4 nurses, two regular sized needles, two children sized ones and 30 minutes later, they had their 6 milliliters of blood. With all that, Jonathan was perfectly immune to both Heps and me... well, I have no immunity. So another round of Hep B for this girl, even though I did it back in Grade 7.
We're now just working on what clothing we are going to take, the convertible pants are ideal, since it should be hot during the day and cooler at night. We have been advised with the animals it's best to wear white, khaki, and light brown colors. This the time of year, it's actually quite hard to find these things, specially the convertible pants. Mind you, spring clothing is coming, I just might have to wait another week or two and my current wardrobe is quite limiting in these colors.
I have another three weeks to wait before we leave, I'm sure many exciting things are going to happen before than. For now, I don't plan to blog again until we are at least on our way.
Until then.
Audrey
